About the role
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Tax Manager - Public to lead complex tax engagements and provide guidance across a diverse portfolio of business and fiduciary clients in Richmond, Virginia. This position plays a key leadership role in supervising tax professionals, reviewing high-level filings, and helping clients navigate corporate, estate, and trust tax matters with accuracy and confidence.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of five to six tax preparers, providing technical direction, workload oversight, and quality review.
- Review and manage the preparation of tax filings for S corporations, C corporations, estates, and trusts to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Oversee annual income tax provision activities and support clients with timely and well-documented reporting.
- Manage complex corporate tax return engagements from planning through final review and submission.
- Advise clients on entity structure considerations and support matters related to entity formation.
- Use CCH ProSystem Fx and related tax software to coordinate preparation, review, and filing processes efficiently.
- Support sales and use tax compliance activities, including review and oversight of filings prepared in CCH Sales Tax.
- Partner with internal staff and clients to resolve technical tax issues, address notices, and maintain adherence to deadlines.
Requirements
- Active CPA designation is required.
- Significant public accounting experience with progressive responsibility in tax leadership roles.
- Strong background in preparing and reviewing returns for S corporations, C corporations, estates, and trusts.
- Hands-on experience with annual income tax provision and corporate tax return oversight.
- Proficiency with CCH ProSystem Fx and familiarity with CCH Sales Tax.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and develop entry-level tax professionals.
- Knowledge of entity formation concepts and related tax implications.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
