About the role

This position supports the NASA Space Launch System (SLS) Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) labs at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The HWIL labs include the System Integration and Test Facility (SITF), Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL), and multiple Software Development Facilities (SDFs) used to verify integrated avionics and software systems for the SLS rocket. The role involves designing and executing system-level analysis plans to verify avionics and software functionality, as well as designing, executing, and debugging SLS system-level avionics tests.

This is a senior-level position responsible for providing services and support to the Software Systems Engineering Branch (ES51), which oversees requirements, test, analysis, configuration management, systems engineering, and "day of launch" operations for the SLS Integrated Avionics Test Facilities (IATF).

Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert on flight avionics requirements and their analysis in test data, including in-depth knowledge of SLS operations.
  • Design and execute analysis plans from executed test data of HWIL simulation systems.
  • Participate in defining and designing requirements or Detailed Verification Objectives (DVO).
  • Write technical documents, including analysis plans and reports, to address verification requirements.
  • Evaluate test data to correlate with test findings and investigate potential anomalies.
  • Communicate insights and observations about the performance of integrated systems clearly and concisely.
  • Act as a self-starter and product owner of a library of flight avionics analysis procedures.
  • Initiate contact with other groups to resolve problems.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software Development, Test, and Electrical Integration teams to ensure tests and analyses meet technical intent.
  • Design, execute, and debug test plans.
  • Develop test case software using languages such as Python, XML, or C.
  • Use a Linux-based platform and be familiar with basic Linux commands, including vi.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field (ABET-accredited university preferred).
  • Typically, equivalent of a BS with 15+ years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have a STAR ID.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NASA or flight avionics data analysis or system test.
  • Experience designing, developing, executing, and analyzing system test plans or analysis plans.
  • Perform detailed data analysis of requirements and Detailed Verification Objectives (DVOs) for test development and post-test data analysis.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop labs (HWIL).
  • Developing software test cases or scripts using Python, XML, or C.
  • Writing technical documents associated with data analysis or testing.
  • Hands-on integration and troubleshooting support, including proficiency with basic lab hardware and software diagnostic tools.
  • DOORS or DNG experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Schedule

  • Normal workday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones.
