Sr. Systems Engineer 2 - Azure Cloud Platform
About the role
This is a multiple-location posting. The selected candidate may be based out of our Exelon Corporate Office locations in Philadelphia, PA; Kenneth Square, PA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; Oak Brook, IL; Oakbrook Terrace, IL; or Washington, DC.
The IT Sr Systems Engineer II position serves as a senior technical role within the IT department. It requires demonstrated experience in information technology, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently, as a mentor, and as part of a team. The candidate will provide technical insights driving the design, implementation, and optimization of complex systems under the guidance of a Principal Engineer or Manager. Collaborates with IT architecture to define strategy and works with various teams to implement high-quality systems to meet business requirements. Delivers and supports IT infrastructure, product, and platform solutions, including cloud, non-cloud, and hybrid-cloud systems.
Responsibilities
- Independently coordinates and leads discussions with business partners and vendors to gather information.
- Consults with leadership, architecture, project teams, and end users to identify system requirements and perform feasibility analysis on potential changes related to existing and future security and technical architectures.
- Writes and disseminates system specifications, logical & physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans.
- Delivers practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that satisfy business needs, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, optimization, and supporting metrics (30%).
- Works closely with others to develop future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules. Creates and delivers presentations to Engineering, Architecture Review Boards, and business partners (25%).
- Designs, supports, and maintains custom system integration with other platforms specific to customer needs. Maintains knowledge of current and evolving IT systems technologies and provides emerging technology recommendations (20%).
- Ensures all risks and issues are identified, captured, and actioned appropriately. Provides supporting data to leadership and peers (15%).
- Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance with preferred technologies, methodologies, standards, and policies. Leads peer code reviews and demonstrates advanced debugging and problem-solving skills (10%).
- Leads and supervises interns and apprentices, serving as a peer coach for system engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking, or equivalent experience.
- 4–7 years’ experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or 6–9 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with system administration and designing/documenting processes & procedures.
- Led operational hand-offs and maintained experience supporting cloud computing platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure.
- Demonstrated competence in cloud architecture strategy, cost and capacity management, and security and compliance.
- Expertise in articulating sensitive and mission-critical information to a wide variety of audiences, including senior leaders.
- Ability to influence up, down, and across the organization and drive innovative process improvements.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver work aligning with project management principles and provide financial impact analysis.
- Advanced troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities, including configuring monitoring tools and making informed decisions on settings.
- Proficient in PowerShell, Ansible, or other scripting tools for automation, reporting, and monitoring tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Fundamentals, Power BI, Databricks).
- Familiarity with emerging Azure analytics technologies (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI, Azure ML, Azure Databricks).
- Experience with cloud computing, physical and virtual hardware models, patching processes, and vulnerability/security controls remediation.
- Proven experience designing and managing Microsoft Azure environments for data analytics (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Synapse, SQL db services).
- Strong knowledge of cloud security, compliance, and governance on Azure.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, including mentoring junior team members.

- Annual salary range: $117,600.00 – $161,700.00, based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
