About the role
The Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering organization is a multi-disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted government and international customers with specific solutions that have the potential to scale. ALG Engineering leads the development and delivery of targeted and scalable solutions for custom space and terrestrial applications. The ALG Engineering team is seeking highly technical and talented individuals who are passionate about creating unique solutions that result in a positive impact on a global scale.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of space segment systems engineering including performing preliminary concept development, trade studies, CONOPS definition, requirements decomposition and allocation, interface requirements definition, requirements verification and validation, support to integration and test operations, anomaly resolution, risk management, and schedule execution
- Collaborates with technical program management and product management leadership to ensure successful program execution
- Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop, and verify space segment products
- Deep-dives into satellite subsystems functions and interfaces and develop integrated satellite system designs and solutions
- Coordinates and communicates with subsystem cross-functional engineering teams to ensure system execution
- Participate in software-to-hardware integration and test activities to ensure mission functionality pre- and post-launch operations
- Perform technical data analysis, verify, and maintain systems configurations in accordance with defined constraints and operational requirements
- Performs various analyses to optimize the satellite system and/or system architecture
- Resolves cross-functional technical issues using facts and data to determine the optimal technical approach
- Develop and improve systems engineering processes and rigor
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in Space systems engineering principles and techniques; Power, mass, and other technical performance budgets; Requirements analysis and flow-down; Design verification and validation processes; Configuration management; Satellite level integration and test processes
- 8+ years of experience in spacecraft systems engineering, Spacecraft design, or a related field, with hands-on experience in satellite design and integration.
- 8+ years of experience with the derivation and maintenance of requirements from a system level down to lower levels
- 8+ years of experience developing system level budgets (power, dV, pointing, link, etc.) and track the budget throughout the development lifecycle
- Hands-on experience with spacecraft integration, flatsat testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or mission operations
- 5+ years of experience in the use of standard electronic lab test equipment (i.e. network analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, multimeters, etc.)
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or experience working in electrical engineering field
- Computational problem solving and test automation/optimization in one or more of the following: Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, C/C++, Docker, Rust on a Linux platform.
- Experience working in cloud infrastructures (AWS) with strong working knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 subnetting and L1-L6 networking
- Experience in verification plan and test plan development related to established test standards (MIL-STD-810, DO-160)
- Familiarity with satellite communications, ground terminals, or DoD networks
- Experience with satellite or terrestrial communications systems and antenna theory
- Experience with communications theory and RF systems: OFDM, MIMO, polarization, spread spectrum, matching, S-parameters, losses, coherence, etc.
- Working knowledge of RF front‑end components, modem systems, GNSS, and link‑level performance
- Experience with RF and/or network measurement equipment, including but not limited to spectrum/signal/network generators/analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Proficiency with software development and hardware integration related to satellite payloads or ground systems
- Experience system engineering space and/or ground systems development efforts including meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.
- High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive; resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction
- Excellent oral and written communication and leadership skills with strong sense of ownership and drive
- Experience in working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies
