Job Summary
Software Development Engineers are expert problem-solvers and builders who design, implement, and improve software applications and systems. In this role, engineers spend approximately 60–75% of their time coding, working hands-on with code, data, and modern tools (including AI-assisted development, cloud services, and automation frameworks) to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality technology solutions that drive business outcomes in the fintech sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret requirements for project components and incorporate feedback into future designs or solution fixes.
- Translate business requirements by verifying assumptions and escalating potential design issues to appropriate stakeholders.
- Contribute to project estimation and escalate issues that may cause delays.
- Develop, implement, and maintain code for products, services, or components, applying coding patterns, guidelines, and best practices.
- Apply debugging tools to verify assumptions and proactively flag issues before they occur.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed and address routine pull requests.
- Manage end-to-end lifecycle of application enhancements by working with architects, systems analysts, project managers, QA and other developers to successfully implement projects while applying the latest available tools and technology including GenAI tools.
- Leverage and build knowledge of software developer tools to create, debug, and maintain code for components.
- Remain current in skills by investing time in training resources to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.
- Prepare technical documents, develop code, review code, build environment, review test results, and prepare plan for implementation.
- Analyze technical impact, stability, and functionality due to any custom change.
- Manage small to medium-sized project/initiatives as an individual contributor with advanced knowledge within discipline.
- Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to standards, best practices and development methodologies.
- Work with Software Configuration Management on the implementation and support of software maintenance releases.
- Evaluate new tools and frameworks as they become available and recommend adoption as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications: Master's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. OR Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field AND minimum two (2) years of experience in a directly related field. OR Minimum five (5) years of directly related experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Development experience in COBOL, JCL, ISPF required. Development experience on MVS/OS 390 batch application required. Development experience using ESP, CA7 or another scheduling software. Development experience with FILE-AID. Development experience with Connex/Advantage settlement application or equivalent. Development experience with a Settlement/Reporting application in the Financial sector. Ability to solve complex software development/design issues. Ability to write clean, coherent code following established coding guidelines. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise way. Collaborative, team oriented style. Ability to work independently exhibiting strong multitasking and time management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to translate technical issues/concepts into ways for non-technical staff to understand. Good knowledge of EFT settlement and transaction processing. Hands-on knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLM), particularly in integrating AI-driven solutions with legacy mainframe environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and their application to business process automation or data analytics is highly desirable. REXX experience is a plus.
