Compensation

Base Pay Range: $241,000.00 - $331,100.00 (Redwood City, CA & New York City, NY)

Key Responsibilities

• Set technical vision and strategy for data representations and tokenization strategies across biological data types (imaging, sequencing, multimodal).
• Develop, deploy, and validate approaches for combining heterogeneous data modalities into unified training frameworks.
• Evaluate model performance, identifying captured/lost biological signals and iterating to improve.
• Partner with ML engineers and AI researchers to co-design datasets and optimize model training and generalization.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives spanning data engineering, infrastructure, science, and product.
• Identify and drive new data acquisition opportunities, including consortium partnerships.
• Serve as a technical mentor and leader, raising standards for data science and ML rigor.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 12+ years working with large-scale biological datasets, or PhD + 7 years (including ownership of end-to-end data products).
• Domain Expertise (at least one):
• Imaging data (microscopy, cell phenotyping, spatial biology).
• Or Genomics data (bulk/single-cell sequencing, functional genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, spatial biology, multi-omics).
• Data Transformation: Understanding of transforming raw biological data into AI-ready datasets, including handling noise, batch effects, and quality assessment.
• Tokenization & Representation: Experience with tokenization strategies for non-text data or creating data representations for ML in scientific contexts.
• Technical Skills: Strong expertise in data science, statistical modeling, modern ML architectures (transformers, diffusion models), and data architecture design.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to translate between biology, ML, and engineering.
