Sr. Staff Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Staff Accountant to support a real estate portfolio from our McLean, Virginia office. This position focuses on producing timely financial reporting, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating closely with internal teams to meet monthly and quarterly obligations. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger knowledge, sharp analytical skills, and a disciplined approach to reconciliations, reporting, and deadline-driven accounting work. Responsibilities: • Compile owner reporting packages each month and ensure submissions are completed according to established reporting deadlines. • Review general ledger activity, identify inconsistencies, and prepare or recommend reclassifications to improve financial accuracy. • Partner with project management teams on recurring reporting needs, including quarterly deliverables and journal entry adjustments. • Produce lender compliance reporting and supporting schedules on both a monthly and quarterly basis. • Develop and maintain detailed distribution schedules and portfolio-level financial workbooks for assigned entities. • Complete weekly and month-end bank reconciliations for each property and support cash reporting and closing activities. • Calculate management fees using designated accounting platforms and supporting spreadsheet models. • Assemble lender draw documentation and submit complete packages in line with loan covenant requirements. • Support the annual budgeting process by preparing accounting assumptions for taxes, insurance, fees, reserves, escrows, and amortization schedules. • Review and approve invoices regularly, coordinate payments with accounts payable, and assist with additional accounting projects as needed. • Demonstrated experience with month-end close activities in a multi-entity or portfolio-based accounting environment.• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, including account analysis and financial reclassification entries.• Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and maintaining accurate supporting documentation.• Proven ability to perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.• Solid background in bank reconciliation processes for recurring cash management and month-end reporting.• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build, update, and manage detailed financial workbooks.• Ability to manage multiple deadlines while collaborating effectively with project teams and accounts payable staff.
