About the Role

As a Sr Sourcing Specialist at Unum, you will be part of the global supply management organization, leading sourcing and execution of projects, contracting, and supplier relationship management across the enterprise. You will utilize project management skills to drive results, manage deadlines, and work in partnership to manage cost, quality, and delivery performance of Unum’s supply base. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier contract negotiations, performance management, and developing customized supplier strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and participates on cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and execute sourcing strategies for defined categories to reduce cost and mitigate risk.
  • Manages and conducts RFX events for low and medium complexity enterprise-wide sourcing projects, including bid analysis, process specifications, and sourcing recommendations.
  • Ensures consistent application of best practices for sourcing and procurement processes across the enterprise.
  • Develops negotiation strategies, aligns stakeholders, and leads category-based negotiation teams using methodologies like BATNA.
  • Conducts complex analyses, including price/cost, benefit, and financial analysis, with a strong understanding of contract development and evaluation.
  • Works closely with business owners and subject matter experts to source new requirements in a timely manner.
  • Assists in interpreting procedures and guidelines related to sourcing goods and services.
  • Supports and improves supply base development programs, such as supplier diversity, local economic development, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Consults with business partners to create Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for measuring and managing supplier performance.
  • Manages supplier relationships and performance through scorecards and regular feedback cycles.
  • Ensures decision-making is supported by technical and functional knowledge of the category and leading-edge analytical methods.
  • Collaborates with legal to ensure contracts follow company policy for review and approval.
  • Analyzes supplier contracts and recommends changes.
  • Performs prospective supplier assessments, including financial stability and customer reference checks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in Procurement, Category Management, Supplier Management, or Sourcing.
  • Project Management experience is a plus.
  • Strong relationship and communication skills to collaborate with and influence internal and external partners across all levels and geographic markets.
  • Proven ability to initiate and maintain stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong negotiation, contracting, communication (verbal & written), influence, and leadership skills.
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills, with a track record of delivering tangible results in complex and matrix environments.
  • Ability to set stretch goals and define steps to achieve results.
  • Proven skills in developing and implementing sourcing and negotiation strategies.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, presentation, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform financial analysis (e.g., ROI, NPV, make vs. buy, lease vs. buy).
  • Advanced PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $63,500.00 - $120,000.00. Actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location, and experience. Unum also offers performance-based incentive plans.
