Sr. Solutions Architect, Startups

About the role

We are looking for technical builders who love the idea of working with early-stage startups to help them grow. In this role, you’ll work directly with a variety of interesting customers, helping them make the best—and sometimes the most pragmatic—technical decisions. You’ll build enduring relationships with these companies and establish yourself as a trusted advisor.

Beyond customer engagement, you’ll have time to learn new technologies, advocate for product improvements, and share knowledge through technical content and events. You’ll also contribute to the growth of the Solutions Architecture organization by mentoring team members and participating in hiring decisions.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with strategic startup customers to accelerate their challenging projects and recommend best-practice architectures aligned with their long-term business outcomes.
• Build technical relationships with customers and operate as their trusted advisor, shaping guidance based on their best interests.
• Share the voice of the customer to inform the roadmap of AWS features.
• Participate in the creation and sharing of best practices, technical content, and new reference architectures (e.g., white papers, code samples, blog posts).
• Evangelize and educate about AWS technology through workshops, user groups, meetups, public speaking, online videos, or conferences.
• Contribute to the growth of the Solutions Architecture organization by interviewing candidates and mentoring team members.
• Develop areas of depth in technical domains relevant to your interests and your customers’ outcomes.
• Design and implement proof-of-concepts (POCs) and reference architectures to showcase the value of AWS services and their potential impact on customers’ businesses.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in specific technology domain areas (e.g., software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics).
• 3+ years of experience in design, implementation, or consulting for applications and infrastructures.
• 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting experience in the software or Internet industries.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture, and networking experience.
• Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive-level stakeholders or clients.
• Experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS.

The AWS Startup Solutions Architecture team is dedicated to working with startup companies as they build their businesses. We help them deploy scalable, secure, cost-effective, and easy-to-operate architectures.

Pay

Base salary range: $153,600 - $207,800 USD annually (Santa Monica, CA). Your package will also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
