Sr. Software Engineer (Payments & Data)
About the role
At Qu you’ll find a fun, dynamic, and diverse culture that celebrates team and individual success. Our people are down to earth, trail-blazing folks who value innovation. While mostly virtual, we collaborate closely to produce leading-edge software solutions much needed in the restaurant industry. You will work on building the leading enterprise restaurant technology platform (POS, kiosks, digital ordering).
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can own both sides of our payments story: building the integrations that process transactions, and building the data platform that makes those transactions visible and reconciled for our merchants. You’ll join a scaled agile team distributed across multiple geographies, working on cloud-based and cloud-hybrid architectures that process high-volume restaurant payments daily.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain payment integrations with PSPs across card-present (EMV terminal) and card-not-present (hosted/online) channels.
- Own terminal-to-cloud payment flows: device initialization, transaction processing, Store & Forward, and webhook-based reconciliation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert across the full payment stack, from terminal hardware through gateway to settlement.
- Build the reconciliation platform (UI and back-end) that matches POS transactions against PSP settlement/payout records and surfaces discrepancies.
- Design matching engines and data pipelines that ingest settlement files, normalize records, and classify exceptions (voids, partial refunds, abandoned checks, offline payments).
- Create payment analytics dashboards and reports (PAR insights, payout exports, transaction drill-downs) for merchant back-office users.
- Translate business requirements into working solutions; mentor engineers; maintain documentation and runbooks.
- Participate in code reviews and drive code quality across payment services.
Requirements
- 7+ years in software development with meaningful payments or financial data exposure.
- 5+ years in C# / .NET building APIs and microservices.
- Hands-on PSP integration experience: gateway APIs, terminal APIs, management APIs, webhook notifications.
- EMV terminal integration: device pairing, transaction flows, certification, in-store troubleshooting.
- Fluency in payment domain concepts: acquirers, issuers, settlement (gross/net), chargebacks, PCI DSS, tokenization, PAR, authorization vs. capture, Store & Forward.
- Experience building data reporting UIs (Vue.js, Angular, or React) that present financial data to non-technical users.
- Experience with data reconciliation logic: cross-system matching, discrepancy identification, exception classification.
- AWS services: ECS, SQS, DynamoDB, RDS, CloudWatch, Parameter Store.
- MongoDB and SQL databases.
- Elasticsearch or similar for transaction data querying.
- Git, Azure DevOps Pipelines, Docker, Terraform.
Nice-to-have
- EBT payment processing or gift card systems.
- Fraud detection/prevention systems.
- Restaurant/QSR industry experience.
- Mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay).
- International or multi-merchant payment platforms.
- Terminal management and remote diagnostics.
Who You Are
- High ownership across both code and data. You don’t treat the reporting side as someone else’s problem.
- Financially precise. You understand that off-by-one-cent errors in reconciliation have real business impact.
- Comfortable bridging payment infrastructure engineering and data/reporting needs in the same sprint.
- Strong communicator who can explain payment flows to both engineers and business stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker who balances immediate fixes with long-term platform goals.
- Intellectually curious, willing to push new approaches to payment and data problems.
