About the Opportunity
The Sr. Software Engineer (Operational Systems Team) role involves leading technical initiatives for the Core Lab Case Management platform, which serves as the backbone for laboratory operations. This position carries ownership for managing complex systems end-to-end, defining architectural directions, mentoring engineers, and fostering a strong engineering culture. The role is critical for scaling enterprise capabilities and ensuring long-term operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Develop scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, alongside rich, user-facing applications leveraging React and Next.js
- Design extensible system architectures that balance high performance, rigorous data security, and long-term maintainability
- Manage the full lifecycle delivery of complex technical features, from initial sprint planning to post-release production support
- Ensure high availability and deep observability of all services by continuously improving alerting frameworks, centralized logging, and incident response systems
- Maintain exceptional engineering standards across the team through constructive code reviews, structured technical mentorship, and documentation
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and operational stakeholders to align engineering deliverables with broader business objectives
- Lead technical design reviews and system decomposition strategies to decouple monolithic structures across teams
- Identify vulnerabilities in operational or architectural resilience and implement proactive mitigation plans
- Promote continuous knowledge sharing and documentation to eliminate operational silos and ensure system continuity
- Participate in engineering on-call rotations and lead detailed post-incident reviews to enhance overall system reliability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related quantitative field; or equivalent practical professional experience
- Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of progressive software engineering experience with strong backend expertise (Node.js, PostgreSQL) and frontend proficiency (React, TypeScript)
- Proven track record of architecting, deploying, and maintaining highly scalable production systems
- Prior engineering mentorship experience with a demonstrated ability to elevate team technical quality through design reviews
- Strong systems-level thinking with the ability to pragmatically evaluate scalability, reliability, and maintainability tradeoffs
- Hands-on experience designing applications for deep observability, system telemetry, and operational excellence
- Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and align cross-functional technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience operating within regulated domains (such as digital health, medical devices, HIPAA, or FDA software validation frameworks)
- Development experience within containerized cloud environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS) paired with automated CI/CD pipelines
- Practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and event-driven or microservices-based software architectures
