As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain sophisticated software applications that enable Cargill's trading operations by delivering scalable, high-quality technology solutions. This role advances key platforms, including Weather Intelligence and NA Crop Supply, transforming complex weather, crop, market, and trading data into accessible, actionable insights. These insights power proprietary models, supply chain optimization, risk management, and trading strategies. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will enhance software capabilities, integrate advanced data and analytics, and deliver reliable digital products that help anticipate market impacts, identify opportunities, improve operational performance, and strengthen Cargill's competitive advantage across global agricultural markets.
Responsibilities
- Software Development: Design and implement robust trading systems, applying appropriate technologies to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code. Integrate market data feeds from financial providers and exchanges to process real-time data and customize solutions to align with trading strategies and regulatory requirements.
- Automation: Implement continuous integration and deployment pipelines to streamline trading software releases. Automate complex tests to validate software reliability under various market conditions and optimize workflows by automating repetitive tasks to increase operational efficiency.
- Collaboration: Work with traders, analysts, and other cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver needed solutions, ensuring technical solutions align with business goals. Participate in Agile practices like standups and sprint planning for effective communication, share knowledge through code reviews, and explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical team members.
- Testing & Debugging: Develop comprehensive test plans, including unit and integration tests, to validate functionality and performance. Apply advanced debugging skills to resolve software defects and maintain system integrity. Perform complex testing to ensure the system handles high transaction volumes and collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure software meets standards before deployment.
- Continuous Improvement: Sustain a commitment to improving system performance, scalability, and reliability to ensure systems evolve with changing needs. Stay current with industry trends and best-in-class standards, proactively suggest improvements to development processes and tools, and integrate user and stakeholder feedback to refine software solutions.
- Documentation: Review and build technical documentation of complex system architecture and development processes. Ensure clear technical guides and operation manuals to facilitate ease of use, maintain compliance with regulations and policies, and collaborate to build the knowledge base for onboarding and training new team members.
- Technical Support: Monitor live trading systems for optimal performance, address complex real-time issues promptly, and respond quickly to resolve operational problems to minimize downtime and risk. Execute routine maintenance to keep systems secure and efficient, and develop disaster recovery planning to ensure business continuity during system failures or crises.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience, typically reflecting 5 years or more.
- Experience building and scaling full-stack applications using React, C#, .NET, and/or Python.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing mobile applications.
Pay
The expected salary for this position is $115,000–$155,000. Compensation varies depending on factors including location, certifications, education, and level of experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award based on company and personal performance.
