Sr. Software Development Engineer, Kiro Web
AWS is building Kiro — a frontier AI-powered development environment that autonomously tackles development tasks, maintains context across interactions, and continuously learns from its work. We're looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to be a technical leader on the Kiro Web team, owning the full-stack architecture of a genuinely novel system: a web application that orchestrates teams of AI agents collaborating on code in real time.
About the role
You’ll make critical architectural decisions for a web application that includes dynamic topology control, inter-agent communication, streaming visual interfaces, and tool approval workflows — all built on the Agent Client Protocol (ACP). Key challenges include:
- Scaling the process-per-session model as users run dozens of concurrent agents
- Designing state synchronization between server-side ACP processes and browser-side React stores
- Architecting the multi-agent team orchestration layer to allow dynamic activation/deactivation of agents and runtime topology modifications
- Building enterprise features (multi-tenant, RBAC, usage metering) without compromising the localhost-first simplicity that makes Kiro Web fast and ergonomic
As a technical leader, you’ll mentor engineers, lead design reviews, drive cross-team initiatives with the Kiro CLI and Kiro IDE teams, and translate ambiguous product requirements into concrete systems. You’ll tackle novel problems in multi-agent orchestration UIs, defining the team’s technical trajectory.
About the team
Kiro Web builds the browser-based experiences and orchestration platform for Kiro, including:
- Kiro Web: A full-featured local web application for managing AI coding agent sessions with real-time streaming, multi-agent team orchestration, dynamic topology control, tool approval, diff views, and session resume
- kiro.dev: The public portal for downloads, documentation, changelog, and pricing (Harmony)
- Emerging enterprise console experiences
Our stack: React 19, TypeScript, Vite, Fastify, Node.js 22, TailwindCSS v4, Zustand, WebSockets, JSON-RPC 2.0, pnpm monorepo. The team consists of ~15 engineers across Seattle and Portland, building a new category of developer tool interfaces.
Requirements
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
- 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
Pay
Base salary range: $168,100 – $227,400 USD annually (Seattle, WA). Final compensation includes sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and is determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D, supplemental life plans, EAP, mental health support, medical advice line)
- Flexible Spending Accounts
- Adoption and surrogacy reimbursement coverage
- 401(k) matching
