About the Role
In this role, you will lead innovative signal processing and machine learning research as part of the Algorithms Group. You will partner with other project leads to plan and execute collaborations between the Algorithms Group and multidisciplinary engineering teams across Starkey, translating breakthrough ideas into commercial products and contributing to patents and technologies that improve lives worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Research digital signal processing algorithms for hearing aids.
- Propose research project plans, review existing literature, competitive products, and patents.
- Propose, prototype, and evaluate algorithm candidates using simulation and research platforms.
- Select final algorithms and generate research reports.
- Actively collaborate with product development groups to bring research results to products.
- Coordinate the transfer of research results to product teams and provide input to firmware requirements.
- Work with DSP technology engineers to identify and make design tradeoffs.
- Provide technical support to clinical validation efforts and training to product development group members.
- Demonstrate technical expertise in major signal processing algorithms and serve as a principal investigator for research projects.
- Provide technical consultation to junior engineers and monitor new research opportunities.
- Work with management to maintain and enhance group dynamics and processes.
- Participate in DSP research, professional conferences, journal seminars, competitive analysis, benchmarking, and intellectual property activities (e.g., patents).
Requirements
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required (Ph.D. preferred for Senior Engineer II).
- Senior Engineer II: Minimum of 3 years of applicable experience for candidates with a Ph.D.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of digital signal processing and its applications.
- Knowledge of acoustics, audio signal processing, and closed-loop acoustic control.
- Knowledge of electro-acoustic systems modeling, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and psychoacoustics desirable.
Skills
- Proficiency in Matlab, Python, and C/C++.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and technical leadership.
- Proficiency in numerical reasoning, analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Attention to detail.
- Background in real-time signal processing and fixed-point algorithms desirable.
Pay
The target pay rate for this position is between $124,000 - $189,000 annually, with factors such as geography, skills, education, and experience influencing starting pay. This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus.
