JOB SUMMARY: To coordinate and schedule material required to be packaged in accordance with both commercial standards and military specifications in order to meet delivery requirements.
Job Duties
- Captures packaging efforts for both Commercial Standards and Military Specifications.
- Determines packaging requirements for contracts and recommends packaging material to be used to ensure cost effectiveness, quality and contract requirements are met.
- Collaborates with Quality Assurance for final inspection of shipments.
- Aids in soliciting bids, negotiating requirements, selecting vendors and ordering packaging materials and supplies to meet required delivery dates.
- Assists in preparing estimates for packing and crating costs for packaging proposals.
- Responsible for reviewing advanced shipping releases to determine special order packaging and compliance to Contract requirements.
- Provides guidance and instruction to shipping clerks on specialized packaging and marking requirements.
- Inspects the work of shipping clerks ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
- Ensures that shipments packaged, utilizing specifications for preservation, marking, and packaging standards, are accomplished using latest revisions.
- Guarantees shipments are properly blocked and braced on carrier equipment.
Qualifications
- Educational Requirement: High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Comprehensive understanding of military and commercial packaging, marking requirements and/or electro-plating and finishing requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of carrier equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of Security Regulations for classified shipments.
- In-depth knowledge of Department of Transportation Regulations for hazardous material packaging.
- Understanding of cost of materials and labor requirements for preparing proposals.
- Understanding of various types of packing materials.
- Ability to operate forklift trucks, overhead cranes, and hand tools.
- Ability to lift upwards of 50 pounds.
- Ability to determine weight and calculate volume of material to be shipped.
- Ability to read, interpret and extract applicable information from specifications.
- Ability to plan, organize and schedule tasks.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Ability to work well with others.
