About the role

We are seeking a Sr Scientist II to lead technical projects related to raw material characterization (RMC) and formulation science services for both internal and external customers. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to advance life sciences breakthroughs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments and guide/mentor scientists in a laboratory setting.
  • Manage timelines for multiple projects, prioritizing work based on business importance and urgency.
  • Communicate progress toward milestones and program needs to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare formal reports and presentations for group meetings.
  • Solve complex problems using professional concepts and practical approaches.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Product Line Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, R&D) to optimize media formulation quality and supply chain/vendor management.
  • Provide formulation science services to external customers, creating custom solutions for their needs.
  • Apply scientific/engineering principles to identify opportunities and improve media and buffer preparation processes.
  • Maintain Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Build, manage, and lead the RMC program and formulation science services group.
  • Stay updated on job knowledge through educational opportunities and technical publications.

Requirements

  • B.S. in science, bioscience, engineering, or bioengineering with >12 years of relevant experience, or M.S. with >10 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. with >5 (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in process development and/or technical operations, with an emphasis on analytical chemistry and methods development.
  • Strong background in applied chemistry and analytical method development/optimization.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and work on complex, challenging problems.
  • Capable of independent judgment in developing methods and techniques to meet business objectives.
  • Experience in technology and process improvements.
  • Fluency in English (speaking, writing, and reading).

  • Proficiency in receiving minimal instructions for routine work and general guidance for new assignments.

Pay

For California, the base salary range for this position is $106,000–$138,000. Compensation will depend on qualifications, education, prior experience, and location.
