Sr Scientist I, Discovery Biotherapeutics Multispecifics Engineering

About the role
Discovery Biotherapeutics at AbbVie is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated scientist to join a dynamic team supporting design, engineering, and production of multispecifics. This position will impact projects through engineering, production, and characterization of multispecific biopharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate should have experience with biologics and multispecifics production platforms, analytical characterization. Experience with ADCs and/or Oncology-focused multispecifics is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and produce multispecific biologics to support the Oncology therapeutic area.
- Evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art technology to improve therapeutic production platforms; demonstrate creative, out-of-the-box thinking to solve difficult problems.
- Serve as a Multispecifics Engineering representative for cross-functional teams; contribute scientific insights into multiple projects across various therapeutic areas.
- Identify and solve technical problems independently; conceive and implement innovative process research ideas.
- Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports.
- Provide project updates, analysis, and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents.
Qualifications
- PhD or MS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Title to be determined by years of experience, ideally in multispecifics biologics engineering:
- Sr Sci I: 0-4 years (PhD), 6+ years (MS), or 8+ years (BS).
- Experience with protein, biologics, fragments, and multispecifics design, expression, and purification.
- ADC and multispecific ADC design experience preferred.
- Strong molecular biology skills (e.g., molecular cloning) and experience with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata).
- Experience with purification and automation instruments (e.g., Akta, Kingfisher, Hamilton).
- Experience with in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g., SEC, MS, DSF).
- Experience with developability screening for multispecifics preferred.
- Experience with CRO coordination preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to rapid change in priorities.
- Goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to operate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Recognized in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications and patents preferred.
