Position : Sr. Scientist Location : San Diego, CA Duration : 12 Months Contract Total Hours/week :40.00 pay rate: $35-45/hr Description We are seeking a highly motivated chemist to develop novel fluorescent dyes including those based on conjugated polymer technologies.Individual will develop practical approaches to meet dye specifications based on business strategy, provide project timelines, execute chemistry in support of the project, and communicate progress in meetings and written summaries.Must be comfortable working in cross-functional teams under defined deadlines in support of the full development cycle from prototype to production.Strong oral and written communication skills are required and experience in writing disclosures and supporting patent applications is helpful. The successful candidate is highly innovative and has experience with conjugated polymers, optical spectroscopy, organic synthesis, macromolecule separations and analytical characterization with excellent attention to detail. The individual will be required to report progress in written and presentation form and independently contribute to chemistry planning and design activities. Primary Duties Design and synthesize conjugated polymer dyes in line with commercial strategy. Delivering cutting edge solutions to highly integrated product development problems and delivering to timelines. Perform and oversee a wide variety of polymer processing, purification and characterization steps. Create or identify innovative new technologies for fluorescence-based biological detection used in the creation of reagents. Responsible for product development by interpreting data and providing guidance to product development teams. Work collaboratively with polymer chemists, biochemists and applications scientists to develop new dyes for flow cytometry. Present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and supervisors, lead and/or participate in technical meetings, and provide recommendations based on technical results. Working with product pipelines at various stages of development. Participate in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems across teams. Develop, write, and edit existing SOPs; ensure validity and accuracy of information. Guide junior scientists in setting up, purifying and characterizing chemical reactions including assistance in data interpretation. Basic Qualifications Minimum Knowledge and Skills: Organic Synthesis Advanced organic synthesis skills A strong background in polymer/material science is essential Analytical Skills Experience with UV/Vis and/or fluorescence spectroscopy Experience with FPLC/HPLC/GPC method development Strong diagnostic, analytical and technical ability Other Experience with product design and product development Experimental design independence Works in a team based environment Multi-task to cover a variety of job functions Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment Education And Experience Typically requires MS with minimum of 5-10 years Typically requires Ph.D with minimum 1-3 years of experience in a polymer and materials chemistry environment
