About the Role
The Sr. SBA Loan Closing Specialist is responsible for all due diligence related to the accuracy and completeness of new SBA loans or modifications to existing SBA loans, from post-customer acceptance to booking/funding. This role involves close collaboration with SBA Sales and SBA Credit to ensure compliance with SBA guidelines. The Specialist will report on loan closing progress to leadership, stay updated on SBA changes and processes, and contribute to developing SBA process materials and training for the field.
Responsibilities
- Identify business entity types and collect corresponding legal documentation required for state or county filings.
- Utilize the loan workflow and tasks within the Loan Origination System to identify best practices.
- Order, review, and analyze third-party vendor documents related to loan collateral.
- Complete due diligence for loan approval conditions and customer identification requirements in a timely manner.
- Verify loan approvals by the appropriate authority level.
- Serve as the point of contact between the lender, underwriter, customer, attorney, title company, and SBA as needed.
- Ensure all required due diligence and approval documentation is accurately indexed into the system of record.
- Use loan documentation software to create accurate legal agreements/contracts.
- Perform post-closing examination of loan documents for accuracy and completeness, and upload documents to the system of record.
- Verify collection of applicable fees from the borrower and disburse loan proceeds according to schedule.
- Send loan-specific information to Loan Servicing for core system input and maintenance.
- Verify proper approvals, including SBA, FSA, or other relevant entities.
- Ensure proper loan entry/buildout into the Loan Origination System (LOS) SBA Module.
- Complete and execute proper SBA Forms and Disclosures at application and closing.
- Submit and obtain SBA Loan approval through E-Tran or SBA One for new loans and modifications as required.
- Order and review CAIVRS and IRS Tax Transcript verifications.
- Coordinate and execute Letter of Credit documentation for Small Business portfolios.
- Support all SBA closings, regardless of the line of business (LOB) in which they originate.
- Mentor junior team members as needed.
- Ensure compliance with Northwest’s policies, procedures, and Federal/State regulations.
- Navigate Microsoft Office, department-specific software, and other computer applications to maximize efficiency.
- Work as part of a team and complete other duties or special projects as assigned by management.
- Promote safe work habits by setting a good example and enforcing safety practices.
- Ensure employees know emergency procedures.
Requirements
- 5–6 years of previous SBA experience preferred.
- 5–6 years of previous loan closing or loan operations experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

This position is remote. If you live within 40 miles of one of the following hub locations, you must work onsite Monday–Thursday, with Friday as an optional work-from-home day:
