About the role

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low‑latency, high‑speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Sr. Ground Systems Engineer will develop aerospace‑grade ground stations and related products for a high‑performance satellite constellation, including full‑motion tracking antennas, modems, and supporting systems that directly impact the end‑to‑end ground‑space link performance.

In this role you will be actively engaged in developing Amazon Leo’s Ground Gateway terminal products, working with a cross‑disciplinary, multi‑domain team to develop, test, qualify, produce, and globally deploy solutions that enable Leo’s global network.

Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and provide Radio Frequency (RF) technical oversight for integrated ground station products and solutions for gateways and tracking, telemetry, and control systems, collaborating with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Develop solutions to demanding design problems to achieve aerospace‑grade, high‑reliability ground station Leo connectivity products.
  • Support and conduct in‑depth design reviews, preparing documentation and reviewing design materials.
  • Develop RF architecture, specifications, requirements, and designs; perform analyses; prepare documentation; and present for parabolic LEO tracking TT&C and Gateway Terminal systems.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise in developing RF hardware equipment and modem products for integration into Ground Gateway and TT&C terminals.
  • Assist in creating qualification, verification, and validation plans and philosophies to ensure remote products meet rigorous technical, functional, performance, reliability, and business requirements.
  • Develop gateway monitoring and control systems, operational and fault‑management plans, and on‑site commissioning methodologies.
  • Identify and analyze operational faults, performance metrics, and trends; perform root‑cause analysis and anomaly resolution on complex system issues.

  • RF systems experience, preferably with ground tracking antennas and systems.
  • Experience in RF product design, integration, and test related to antenna systems and ancillary equipment.
  • In‑depth understanding of satellite communications link budgets.
  • Experience supporting systems engineering of ground systems development, meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.
  • General computer hardware and software proficiency.
  • U.S. citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful refugee/asylee status due to export control requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in development and operation of full‑motion ground gateways and/or TT&C systems.
  • Experience writing and managing RF system and subsystem requirements, including definition and traceability.
  • Experience defining and documenting RF hardware, software, and interfaces between systems and subsystems.
  • Experience working with external custom product suppliers.
  • Experience with satellite modems and ground system integration from RF to network.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in development of LEO/MEO systems.
  • Experience monitoring and controlling operational satellite ground systems, including fault and performance management.
  • Experience with satellite communications spectrum monitoring systems and software.
  • Proficiency with analysis and scripting tools such as MATLAB, Python, STK, or Visualyse.
  • Experience in V‑Band and E‑Band RF systems.

Pay

Base salary range: $159,200 – $215,300 USD annually. Total compensation may include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
