About the role

Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital seeks a highly skilled and experienced Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have four years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, with at least two years in a critical care level. Neonatal experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to teamwork by offering assistance and guiding other Respiratory Care Practitioners and students.
  • Facilitates open communication and provides patient teaching based on learning needs.
  • Serves as the primary therapist for advanced treatments such as intubation, EBUS, ECMO, etc.
  • Coordinates activities within the respiratory department and assists in problem-solving.
  • Assists with troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, reporting malfunctions.
  • Provides direct assistance to physicians, ensuring quality and reliability of results.
  • Trains and mentors new therapists, contributing to departmental improvements.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved education program for the required credentials.
  • Four years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, with at least two in a critical care level.
  • Neonatal experience preferred.
  • Required licenses and certifications as listed under 'Licenses and Certifications'.
  • Demonstrated skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including teaching and mentoring.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in operating multiple systems.
  • Ability to work independently and handle challenging situations with sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Adaptable to multiple priorities and able to organize work flow independently.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, as determined through assessments and evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English for patient and employee safety.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and provide excellent service during patient and customer encounters.
  • Possesses basic computer knowledge and operates multiple systems to maintain patient and exam documents.
  • Capable of handling challenging/difficult procedures and patient care situations with sound judgment and clinical skills.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team.
  • Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, organizing work flow and participating in problem-solving.
