Sr. Reliability Engineer

About the role
The Sr Reliability Engineer is a self-directed equipment reliability continuous improver who works closely with Operations and Maintenance to identify and implement improvements to design and maintenance processes. This role acts as a problem solver, driving root cause analysis, owning corrective actions, and updating spare parts, work SOPs, and PM details to ensure solutions are completed and replicated. The Sr Reliability Engineer defines, leads, and implements equipment reliability improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for resolving high-impact equipment availability and reliability improvements.
- Lead teams and work individually to address equipment availability and reliability issues.
- Use data to identify high-impact equipment availability and reliability improvements.
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve corrective actions.
- Develop engineering solutions to recurrent failures and problems affecting plant availability.
- Provide engineering support for troubleshooting, define preventive maintenance measures, and support planned shutdowns.
- Define operational parameters in cooperation with production to ensure maximum equipment lifetime.
- Collaborate with suppliers to improve reliability and maintainability of plant equipment.
- Provide technical support to production, maintenance, and technical staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- At least 7-10 years of experience in a reliability engineering role or related technical/engineering field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of common reliability tools such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), SPC, and RCA.
- Experience with Six Sigma, Lean, and other process improvement methodologies is preferred.
- Strong technical engineering skills (mechanical, electrical, industrial, and materials).
- Basic understanding of predictive technologies (vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonics, alignment).
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
- Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance or other CMMS.
- Must be action-oriented, self-directed, and capable of independent planning, organization, execution, and control.

- Must be willing and physically able to observe and walk in a smelter environment, including varying temperatures, prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Ability to travel throughout the facility for audits and observations.
- Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas.
- Required to reach and grasp with hands and arms; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Willing and physically able to travel domestically and/or internationally if requested.
