Sr. R&D Engineer

6+ month contract position in San Diego, CA. 40 hours per week, first shift with flexible hours (meetings typically 9am–5pm). Pay rate: $40–55/hr. Extension not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

• Drive projects, milestones, and activities with a “can-do attitude.”
• Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams.
• Critically dissect problems, ideate creative solutions, and communicate decisions that drive objective team outcomes.
• Plan before execution.
• Work onsite for best-practice lab utilization; work remotely for online collaborations, analyses, and documentation.
• Develop and implement new products following established design control processes and engineering best practices.
• Translate customer needs into design inputs.
• Incorporate design principles for quality, manufacturability, supply continuity, and cost.
• Create and test prototypes.
• Perform tests, analyze data, and solve technical problems with moderate guidance.
• Apply basic statistical techniques and design of experiments with moderate guidance.
• Own one or more product subsystems within an intravenous set development team.
• Over a 3-month concept-development phase, understand internal and external customer needs, develop prototypes, conduct feasibility and benchmark studies, facilitate concept selection, and communicate results to influence team direction.

Requirements

• BS degree in engineering (Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering preferred).
• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of engineering principles and technical problem-solving.
• Working knowledge of product design and development.
• Working knowledge of design control processes.
• History of applying knowledge and skills to standard activities while acquiring and expanding fundamental and higher-level skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in high-volume disposable medical devices.
