About the role
As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will champion supplier food safety, manage material categories, and work with internal and external partners to ensure the safety of General Mills’ products and processes. You will impact the plant and the overall ITQ (Innovation, Technology & Quality) function by leveraging your knowledge and skills to provide deep technical expertise, lead global connections, and be recognized as a valued partner for our plant, sourcing, and business teams.
The right candidate will leverage strong project management and relationship management skills, be results-oriented, and find opportunities for value creation. This role offers high cross-functional exposure, accelerating your ability to navigate and influence across our global organization. You will develop communication and influence skills, deep technical expertise in food safety and quality, and gain exposure to manufacturing environments both inside and outside of General Mills.
Responsibilities
- Provide Food Safety Quality leadership and direction through technical mastery in regulatory compliance, SPC, system capability, sanitation, and food safety risk mitigation.
- Champion material supplier food safety and regulatory compliance.
- Manage specific material categories by identifying and reducing supplier food safety and regulatory risk, providing technical category expertise, ensuring specification compliance, and assessing supplier performance.
- Provide food safety, quality, and regulatory training with suppliers and external GMI partners.
- Lead global initiatives including process improvements, process standardization, and team development.
- Build alignment and strategy with cross-functional partners; lead risk assessments and root cause analysis activities for issue resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, Packaging, Materials Science, or related field.
- 5+ years of related Food Safety or Quality experience.
- Willingness to travel 20-30% of the time.
- Ability to manage cross-platform projects and be comfortable with ambiguity.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, ability to apply engineering principles, and troubleshoot.

- Strong understanding of product quality, sensory, and food safety.
- Strong understanding of Zero Loss Culture philosophy and tools.
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex organizations.
- In-plant quality and manufacturing experience.
- FSQ/XQM/ESC Experience.
International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; General Mills will not sponsor work visas for this position.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $95,300 - $143,200 annually. Pay reflects experiences, performance, skills, education, work experience, certifications, and other factors.
