Sr. Quality Engineer

This role is based at our Irvine, CA facility.

Pay

The expected annual salary range for this role is $99,000 - $145,000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate, and implement highly complex process sampling systems, procedures, statistical techniques, and quality systems.
• Develop process improvement and cost control programs throughout the plant.
• Perform review of customer/industry/internal specifications to ensure processes meet/exceed requirements.
• Provide technical support to operations, customers, and suppliers as needed.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities in targeted areas.
• Execute the Quality Assurance strategy to ensure product flow consistent with established industry standards, government regulations, and customer requirements.
• Function as Lead Auditor to perform quality system audits at suppliers and internally to assess compliance to AS9100/ISO 9001 standards.
• Host and support Internal, Customer, Supplier, FAA, EASA, UK CAA, and 3rd Party Audits as required.
• Collaborate with internal functional teams to improve key metrics.
• Actively support Cost-Out, Scrap/Rework reduction, and improved First Pass Yield site goals and objectives.
• Analyze organizational quality metrics and perform periodic reviews to evaluate results; recommend action plans to close gaps at an operational level.
• Contribute to problem-solving techniques and determine containment and corrective action solutions with applicable verification methods.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of quality assurance training programs and conduct training in quality-related topics.
• Participate in product development gate review meetings with launch activities, including identification of customer expectations to ensure Quality requirements and flow downs are understood and drive compliance.
• Apply engineering and manufacturing technical knowledge to improve supplier activities that support Eaton’s quality, delivery, and cost performance objectives.
• Complete Quality Engineering assignments with minimal supervision.
• Define, specify, and implement quality standards and procedures for manufacturing and inspection processes.
• Ensure that product shipped meets internal and external customer requirements.
• Host Source inspectors and/or Customer Auditors as needed.
• Formulate and implement quality assurance procedures, policies, and standards.
• Act as the liaison with all Federal officials and Customers.
• Maintain and keep current files of pertinent Federal Aviation Regulations, specifications, certifications, Repair Station manual, procedures, and Airworthiness Directives.
• Process nonconformances and customer submittals per MRB procedures.
• Function as Lead Auditor to perform quality system audits to assess compliance to AS9100/ISO 9001 standards, FAA/EASA/CAA regulations, and CASE requirements.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of quality assurance and Repair Station training programs; conduct training in quality-related topics.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of three (3) years of work experience within Quality function or Manufacturing in the Aerospace industry.
• This position requires access to export-controlled information. Applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of FAA/EASA/CAA regulations (e.g., 14 CFR Part 145, 14 CFR Part 21, etc.).
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
• Experience with customer-specific quality registration schemes and certification processes (e.g., ISO9001, ISO/TS-16949, AS9100).
• Previous work experience with problem-solving methods such as Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and associated statistical tools.
• Working knowledge of process auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined quality requirements.
• Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Process Variation Reduction concepts and tool sets related to process/product variability and root cause/corrective action determination.
• Familiarity with engineering design and product reliability concepts and tool sets.
• Familiarity with and experience in product conformity requirements.

Skills

• Working knowledge of process auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined quality requirements.
• Ability to learn product and end-user application/specifications, including product testing requirements.
• Knowledge of product manufacturing, assembly, test, and inspection processes.
• Willingness to ‘think outside the box’ and work well individually or in a team environment.
• Previous work experience with problem-solving methods such as 8D, root cause analysis, and associated statistical tools.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and requirements.
