Responsibilities

  • Functions as a shift leader in the absence of a Manager/Supervisor.
  • Manages work-flow.
  • Fulfills role as a role model and preceptor.
  • Achieves department goals related to safety, professionalism, performance, productivity, and customer service.
  • Conducts proactive patrols of the Hospital campus, including parking lots and satellite buildings.
  • Identifies security vulnerabilities, safety hazards, and violations of Hospital policy.
  • Takes immediate correction action to mitigate vulnerabilities or hazards.
  • Collaborates with other departments to mitigate or resolve issues.
  • Reports deficiencies to Manager/Supervisor and documents via incident report or work order.
  • Inspects perimeter doors, offices, suites, patient care areas, satellite buildings, and other locations to ensure secure conditions.
  • Provides escorts to patients, visitors, staff, and others in compliance with established procedures.
  • Enforces Hospital smoking policy while on patrol.
  • Ensures all employees and others are in possession of a Hospital identification badge and that it is visible.
  • Challenges individuals without visible identification appropriately and documents encounters.
  • Assures that all unauthorized or suspicious individuals are identified and appropriate follow-up measures are implemented.
  • Provides directions and answers questions courteously and service-oriented.
  • Patrols parking lots during shift change and at other times.
  • Grants access to locked areas and buildings to authorized staff.
  • Restricts access to those without authorized business on campus.
  • Responds to all such calls in a timely manner and documents access control activities.
  • Secures designated lobby areas with stanchions upon the conclusion of visiting hours.
  • Activates Hospital lock-down upon the order of the Manager/Supervisor.
  • Ensures that all material leaving the Hospital is inspected and that only authorized articles are permitted to be removed.
  • Responds to emergent situations involving escalating and violent patients, visitors, and others.
  • Responds immediately in a safe and appropriate manner, identifies self by name and department, assumes command and control, removes potential weapons, and communicates clearly and succinctly using de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintains proficiency in restraining patients by attending department-sponsored training programs.
  • Communicates positively and therapeutically with patient and family members.
  • Performs one-on-one observations with patients or patient details upon the request of a Manager/Supervisor.
  • Completes incident reports in conformance with department policies and procedures.
  • Performs service-related duties in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Collects, receives, secures, and returns patient valuables and property.
  • Assists nursing staff and others with patient lifts.
  • Delivers food supplies and other materials to patient care areas during off-hours.
  • Assists with disabled motor vehicles (jump starts, lockouts, etc).
  • Assists Patient Transport staff during peak demand times.
  • Provides courier service during peak demand times and off-hours.
  • Monitors the Hospital parking program and enforces the parking program in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Responds to parking complaints received from neighbors, abutters, local businesses, patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Patrols Hospital-owned and operated parking lots.
  • Answers parking questions in a consistent and accurate manner.
  • Maintains the access control system, unlocks, locks, and resets devices.
  • Monitors the video surveillance system and identifies potential evidence.
  • Monitors and responds to the activation of the infant protection system.
  • Updates identification data throughout the shift and conducts a check-and-balance or audit of the system.
  • Produces Hospital identification badges, enters required data, takes digital images, stores and saves images, and produces badges.
  • Contacts approved vendors for required repairs and maintenance during the off-hours.
  • Accesses motor vehicle registration data.
  • Conducts initial investigations, requests assistance from Supervisor or Lead Officer, receives victim and witness statements, photographs the scene, and provides required comments relative to the cause of the alarm activation.
  • Completes an initial incident report and forwards it to the responsible Manager/Operations Coordinator for further follow-up.
  • Completes shift and other reports as directed.
  • Coordinates the snow removal effort and responds to other weather-related emergencies.
  • Maintains a neat, organized work environment and operates department vehicles safely.
  • Collaborates with other leaders and the Administrative Clinical Coordinator when issues or concerns arise during the assigned shift.
  • Assures that staffing levels on the assigned shift are adequate and sufficient to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Assures that oncoming shifts are properly staffed; e.g., "sick calls" are replaced and/or the supervisor remains on shift until adequate replacement arrives.
  • Completes all incident reports prior to the end of the assigned shift.
  • Completes shift and other reports as directed.
  • Coordinates the snow removal effort, prioritizing specific entrances and parking lots based upon time of the day, day of the week, etc.
  • Assists patients, visitors, employees, and others with "stuck" or stranded motor vehicles.
  • Transports employees and others to and from the Hospital, if service is authorized by department leadership.
  • Shovels and treats sidewalks and roadways, if requested by department leadership.
  • Responds to other weather-related conditions or emergencies that may impact the Hospital's ability to meet the patient care needs of the community.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Previous experience in a security or public safety role is highly desirable. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen. Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to perform physical demands of the job, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to operate department vehicles safely and maintain a neat, organized work environment.
