About the role

Win new business or secure repeat business and manage all aspects of multiple transportation projects using company project controls, available staff, and sub-consultant resources. This role requires effective monitoring of project budgetary health and a high level of client care. The balance of responsibilities shifts from individual production to project management and business development, including developing your own client base through long-standing, positive client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams to successful completion of quality deliverables.
  • Manage quality, budget, and schedule of responsible projects.
  • Actively engage and partner with business development personnel to identify and pursue project opportunities.
  • Participate in project interviews with potential and existing clients.
  • Develop and lead a cohesive team to achieve project objectives.
  • Generate sufficient business to sustain and grow the responsible group.
  • Provide project delivery oversight and accountability for assigned projects with an elevated level of proficiency.
  • Effectively communicate (verbal and written) technical approaches and proposal strategies to staff, clients, and sub-consultants.
  • Perform necessary functions to manage and develop direct reports effectively.
  • Achieve established targets for financial success and utilization.
  • Perform quality control measures and audit quality control for project work.
  • Provide ongoing training and support for internal training programs.
  • Create a network of personal business contacts for potential opportunities.
  • Actively engage in community and professional organizations.
  • Engage in recruiting and retention activities.
  • Promote and support an inclusive work environment.
  • Perform project and administrative work as appropriate.

Requirements

  • 10–12+ years of progressively responsible experience.
  • BS in civil engineering or related discipline.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license required; or PE in another state with the ability to obtain CA licensure within one year.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of general engineering and design principles.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Project.
  • Knowledge of overall project deliverable processes (PSR, PAED, PS&E).
  • Ability to positively establish and grow client relationships.
  • Knowledge of effective business development practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to chase, sell, and secure small-to-medium size project work with new and existing clients.
  • Competent and outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and delegate work assignments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project financials and metrics.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with diverse people and personalities.

The offered base rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
