Sr Project Manager - Engineering
This role is a 50% travel position for a full-time Senior Engineering Manager for the Choose How You Move program in Nashville, TN. About the Role
This opportunity entails managing assigned project(s) throughout their full lifecycle, from developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents to participating in contract negotiations and overseeing project delivery. The role ensures HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivering quality work on time, on budget, and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. You will proactively manage budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications to support project objectives. The position involves high-level technical tasks, including managing and reviewing design-related specifications, calculations, reports, and plans, as well as coordinating with internal and external partners to address and resolve design-related issues.
Responsibilities
- Develop project scope and fee quotations; assist in preparing technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
- Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion while ensuring client satisfaction.
- Lead client contract scoping and negotiations.
- Perform technical discipline tasks, including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
- Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project; lead the development and execution of the project management plan.
- Supervise and mentor the team to meet overall project objectives.
- Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession; support performance and compensation reviews.
- Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, client relationships, and pursuit efforts for mega and super mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA).
- Prepare proposal and presentation materials with the project team and marketing resources; lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic projects.
- May be responsible for recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including staff reporting, performance reviews, compensation, and succession planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience.
- 4 years of successful management of engineering projects.
Qualifications
- Experience winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on multi-disciplined or large/complex projects.
- Ability to identify and handle risk and change management independently.
- Experience leading large teams inside and outside of HNTB, including sub-consultants.
- Proficiency in using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver complex projects.
- Experience leading HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
- Ability to serve as the lead interface with the client.
- Experience deploying talent to other projects and developing successors to work with the same client on other work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- 15 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Pay
The approximate pay range for Colorado is $198,656.54 – $317,334.48. The approximate nationwide pay range for this position is $180,596.86 – $360,607.36. Actual compensation will depend on factors including qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical work location.
Locations: Denver, CO; Nashville, TN (City Center). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
