Sr. Project Controls Specialist

About the role

This role serves as the Cost Lead within an integrated client and contractor project controls team supporting large capital projects. The work revolves around budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, change management, accruals, commitments, and helping project teams understand where things stand financially before the monthly reporting meeting turns into a blame game.

Responsibilities

• Update and maintain project budgets and forecasts
• Manage and analyze project variances and discrepancies
• Support change management processes and ensure compliance with contractual terms
• Prepare and present cost reports and performance metrics to stakeholders
• Collaborate with project teams to identify and resolve financial issues proactively
• Utilize advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting
• Use Power BI and Power Query for creating insightful visualizations and dashboards
• Work effectively within both client and contractor organizations
• Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into project performance
• Participate in governance activities and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

• 10–15 years of project cost controls experience
• Strong forecasting and budget management experience
• Experience with change management, accruals, commitments, and cost performance reporting
• Advanced Excel skills
• Power BI and Power Query experience
• Ability to work effectively within both client and contractor organizations
• Strong analytical and reporting skills

Qualifications

• Oil & Gas experience is preferred, but not required
• Strong understanding of project controls principles and practices
• Ability to quickly grasp complex financial data and uncover underlying issues
• Desire to work with spreadsheets and data analysis tools
