Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company offering investing, savings, retirement, and financial wellness solutions, including a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses. Our team is passionate about empowering people to build wealth with confidence and ease. This role is based in our NYC office and follows a hybrid schedule (four days/week in-office, with no required office days during summer and winter holidays).

About The Role

The Business Systems & Tooling (BS&T) team builds and operates the internal systems powering Betterment's B2B businesses—from Salesforce and its integrations to tooling that connects sales, service, and advisor workflows with the Betterment platform. Since Betterment sells across multiple lines of business, the sales tech stack must reflect this complexity, serving distinct teams with distinct needs.

This role owns the interface between BS&T and its stakeholders. You’ll embed deeply within stakeholder teams—attending their meetings, learning their workflows, and understanding their priorities—so BS&T can proactively identify opportunities rather than reacting to tickets. You’ll then translate stakeholder needs into well-scoped tasks and clear roadmaps in partnership with engineering leads and architects.

This role is ideal for someone energized by bridging business and technical teams, fluent enough in each world to earn trust from both, and disciplined enough to turn ambiguity into actionable plans.

A Day in the Life

  • Stakeholder Immersion & Discovery: Embed with stakeholder teams across lines of business, attending their meetings and building a working knowledge of their processes, tools, and pain points. Proactively surface opportunities for tooling improvements, automation, and best practices. Maintain an updated view of each group’s priorities and how they align with BS&T’s capacity and roadmap. Act as the first point of contact for new requests, gathering context and framing the underlying need before work is committed.
  • Scoping, Roadmapping & Prioritization: Partner with BS&T’s engineering lead and architects to translate stakeholder needs into scoped, documented tasks with clear success criteria. Own and communicate the BS&T roadmap, making prioritization decisions transparent and aligning planning with the rest of the company. Balance urgent priorities against high-value quality-of-life improvements to ensure compounding wins aren’t deferred. Run intake, backlog grooming, and status communication processes to keep the team’s work visible.
  • Vendor & Salestech Landscape: Stay current on the salestech landscape, evaluating emerging tools and practices for fit with Betterment’s stack. Support vendor assessments, procurement, and renewals, partnering with Finance, Legal, and Security as needed. Help stakeholders evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs with a clear-eyed view of total cost, integration complexity, and maintenance burden.

What We're Looking For

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, technical program management, business systems analysis, or a similar role bridging business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and the surrounding GTM systems ecosystem (e.g., CPQ workflows, enrichment, engagement, and integration tooling)—enough to scope work credibly and ask the right questions, even if you don’t build in it yourself.
  • Experience at a company with a complex, multi-product go-to-market, where internal systems must integrate CRM, salestech tools, and the product being sold.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous stakeholder requests into scoped, prioritized, well-documented work.
  • Experience supporting vendor evaluation, procurement, or renewal processes is a strong plus.

Professional Competencies

  • Builds trust quickly with both business stakeholders and engineers, communicating fluently with each in their own terms.
  • Comfortable saying “not yet”—able to make prioritization tradeoffs transparent and maintain stakeholder confidence even when their request isn’t next.
  • Proactive by default: identifies opportunities and proposes solutions rather than operating purely on intake.
  • Strong writer and documenter; believes a decision isn’t made until it’s written down and shared.
  • Thrives in a small team where process is yours to design, not inherited.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with SQL or data analysis tools sufficient to self-serve answers about system and business data.
  • Exposure to marketing automation or martech platforms (e.g., Braze, HubSpot).

Pay

New York City base salary range: $125,000 – $145,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors including location, experience, and performance. This role may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.

Benefits

  • Health & Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision coverage; life and AD&D insurance; short- and long-term disability; infertility support and WPATH-aligned transgender health benefits; Employee Assistance Program (EAP); transit benefits; FSA and HSA options.
  • Ownership: Equity for all employees, including new hire and refresher grants.
  • Time Off: Flexible paid time off, paid parental leave, and a fully paid four-week sabbatical in your sixth year.
  • Growth: Company-paid professional coaching for all employees.
  • Wealth: Day-one 401(k) match plus matching on qualified student loan payments.

Core Values

  • We change lives: Your work will make an impact, laddering up to our mission to empower people to build wealth with confidence and ease.
