Responsibilities
- Promotes ongoing professional learning by sharing evidence, presenting on the unit, and supporting journal clubs and educational activities.
- Uses the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create holistic, patient-centered plans and healing environments.
- Communicates clearly with the care team, translating patient conditions and advocating for care changes; maintains thorough, collaborative documentation.
- Demonstrates strong critical thinking across clinical, social, psychological, safety, and spiritual domains.
- Aligns daily practice with organizational and professional goals to enhance safety, quality, and patient experience.
- Serves as a role model and unit leader in clinical expertise, education, resource support, or evidence-based practice.
- Provides constructive feedback, participates in peer review, and leads or contributes to effective teams and shared governance.
- Buils healthy workplace relationships, demonstrates cultural awareness, and addresses disruptive behaviors.
- Maintains work-life balance through prioritization and delegation.
- Identifies opportunities for clinical and workplace improvement, applying evidence-based practice and contributing to innovations that support patient care and workforce well-being.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years experience.
- BSN preferred.
- Completion of annual contribution as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
- UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/promotion and must be maintained.
- Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
- If a BSN is held, a Masters degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.
- Strong relationship-building skills with staff, physicians, and patients are essential.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, manage multiple priorities, and use critical thinking for patient care decisions.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning is necessary.
Benefits
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
