Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Tool Engineer to join our team in Clearfield, UT. The candidate will be responsible for the concept, design, engineering, fabrication drawings, inspection requirements, procurement requirements, verification requirements, and fabrication support for tooling and equipment for aerospace applications.

Responsibilities

• Interface with the review team to assure customer satisfaction with the design
• Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and fabrication to meet program cost and schedule requirements
• Inspect fabricated support hardware to assure compliance to design
• Work alongside the manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved
• Work with internal customers to concept needed support equipment for new and existing programs
• Develop tooling concepts, create/review, and improve manufacturing processes to meet customer requirements
• Work closely with tool designers to create final drawings
• Perform stress analysis to assure mechanical soundness per Northrop Grumman requirements
• Understand and monitor cost and schedule
• Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability
• Support vendors as needed during fabrication
• Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form, and function
• Support continuous improvement
• Support Operations and Process Engineering in the use of all tooling
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate vendor and equipment capability, including production of tooling and unique aerospace part production
• Experience with closed form and finite element (FE) analysis practices; NX, ANSYS, and ABAQUS software systems preferred
• NX modeling experience
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience (Abaqus preferred)

Pay

Primary level salary range: $137,000.00 - $167,000.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; actual base salary offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Schedule

This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
