About the role

The Sr Principal Software Engineer will work on the C2BMC program, supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. This role is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for in-depth analysis and technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
  • Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products
  • Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications
  • Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
  • Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system's overall efficiency
  • Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operational automation
  • Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases
  • Liaises with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system's overall efficiency
  • Leadership positions on small, software-focused teams may be required

Requirements

  • Experience in software integration and formal testing
  • Thorough knowledge of software development best practices and the skill to implement them across multiple teams
  • Strong problem-solving abilities demonstrated through effective root cause analysis and issue resolution
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and drives the team toward shared success
  • Experience in Java/J2EE development
  • Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired)
  • Extensive Experience with Java Foundation Classes and Toolkits
  • Small team leadership experience (Agile team leadership experience strongly desired)
  • Expertise in net-centric, horizontal integration programs is a plus
  • Strong background supporting software engineering for DoD programs
  • Experience with command and control (C2) system application development
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies
  • Expertise in presenting complex concepts to non-software-engineering audiences, including senior program leadership, government representatives, and military leaders
  • Willingness to take on unanticipated tasking
  • Strong knowledge of Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) to support Agile software development teams

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • A current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one other object-oriented programming language (such as Java, C#, or C++)
  • Proven ability to mentor and motivate junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and drives the team toward shared success

Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced team setting
  • Strong Java/J2EE experience
