Responsibilities

• Provide designs for industrial machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments required for production or experimental use, considering accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings to be used in the manufacturing of new tooling in support of various programs.
• Create effective and safe designs used to manufacture, test, qualify, and transport product.
• Schedule and run 30/60/90% design reviews to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the design cycle.
• Work with internal customers to conceptualize and design support equipment for new and existing programs.
• Collaborate closely with other tool engineering functions to deliver designs on time and within budget.
• Understand and monitor budget and schedule for own tasks.
• Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability.
• Analyze moderate to complex tool designs using FEA and hand calculations.
• Review, sign, and seal safety-critical tool designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 8 years of experience in mechanical, design, tooling, manufacturing, die, product, or similar engineering fields; OR
• Master’s degree in a STEM field with 6 years of relevant experience; OR
• PhD in a STEM field with 4 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in Structural or Machine Design and Materials.
• Structural analysis experience (FEA and hand calculations).
• Experience in design, fabrication, and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite and metallic parts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense clearance per company and/or business needs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access per company and/or business needs.
• Experience with solid modeling (NX preferred).
• Experience with manufacturing processes.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with 2D drawing preparation and analysis.
• Experience with GD&T practice and implementation.
• Experience leading larger-scale projects with minimal to no supervision and working with autonomy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active U.S. Government clearance.
• Active Special Program Access (PAR).
• Demonstrated experience with NX modeling.
• Experience in mechanical design and assembly.
• Experience managing small to medium-size design projects.
• Familiarity with OSHA specifications for design safety.

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 – $167,500.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers factors such as position scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for long-term incentives.
