About the role

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Manufacturing Engineering is seeking a Sr Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer (MSE) to join the Operations Team in Rolling Meadows, IL. This requisition covers multiple roles:

  • Manufacturing Systems Engineer for the Infrared Counter Measure (IRCM) product line
  • Manufacturing Systems Engineer for the Radio Frequency Counter Measure (RFCM) product line

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer will shape and execute the Product Line strategy, consult as a subject-matter expert on capital projects, MTA, and IRAD efforts, and perform in a fast-paced, dynamic, high-visibility operation.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with program teams during pre-proposal, proposal, and early execution phases to offer insight into higher-yielding, novel, and evolving manufacturing processes.
  • Develop a Manufacturing Plan for each phase of the program.
  • Perform Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA).
  • Lead design for automation efforts.
  • Conduct cost modeling and design-to-cost activities.
  • Deploy digital transformation of MSE work products for efficient and successful manufacturing planning.
  • Identify producibility gaps between current and required capabilities for new hardware and develop Manufacturing Maturity Plans (MMP) to address these gaps, including Affordability, Manufacturing Planning, NCTA Planning, Capital Planning, and Strategic Sourcing Efforts.
  • Ensure success of critical Technology Demonstrator builds in the factory for IRCM programs.
  • Establish NCTA, CRAD, and Capital funding plans to ensure execution readiness for IRCM programs in the factory and supply base.
  • Communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Collaborate with multiple disciplines to solve complex issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related STEM field and a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience; OR 6 or more years of relevant work experience with a Master's degree.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and improving manufacturing assembly or test processes for complex hardware.
  • Experience in manufacturing system engineering processes and products throughout the program life cycle, including providing technical leadership and guidance.
  • Experience with NCTA, CRAD, or Capital projects, including submittal and execution.
  • Experience with gated development processes and major program reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, PRR).
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain).
  • Experience with Risk and Opportunity identification, including mitigation and management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of manufacturing engineering-related experience.
  • Experience with Line Replaceable Units (LRU) manufacturing.
  • Experience with new product development.
  • Experience with any of the following: AS6500, Manufacturing Readiness Assessments, Requirements Traceability and Validation, Value Stream Mapping, Factory Mod-Sim, Root Cause Corrective Action, Manufacturing processes and methods, Cost Engineering, Proposal/BOE experience, Design to Cost understanding, Life Cycle Cost Modeling, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Automation, Producibility, or Design for Additive.
  • Active Secret Clearance.

Pay

Primary level salary range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
