About the role
Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a Senior Principal Embedded Systems Security Engineer to support U.S. military programs. This role involves requirement allocation and decomposition, system architecture analysis, security feature design, vulnerability assessment, and formal cybersecurity test and evaluation. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and report to the Senior Manager of Cybersecurity Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Define cybersecurity requirement decomposition, allocation, implementation, and verification using system engineering practices; provide guidance on security technologies.
- Create cybersecurity requirements, design, and architecture artifacts; collaborate with program and engineering disciplines to evaluate security solutions.
- Lead system design discussions and provide cybersecurity engineering input.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and developers to integrate cybersecurity considerations into system design.
- Lead cybersecurity-focused System Verification and Validation, including test planning, execution, analysis, and remediation recommendations.
- Own and generate cybersecurity documentation (e.g., Risk Management Framework System Security Plan, Risk Assessment Report, Plan of Actions and Milestones).
- Serve as part of a team of System Security Engineers, fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
- Champion awareness of evolving security threats and industry best practices; become a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with 7 years of experience.
- Active and transferable U.S. government Secret security clearance (required prior to start date).
- Experience in system requirement definition, allocation, and decomposition, preferably with embedded systems.
- Experience generating Verification Items (VIs) and determining formal verification methods (inspection, analysis, demonstration, and/or test).
- Experience with cybersecurity, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and embedded cryptography.
- Experience with requirement management tools (e.g., DOORS, JIRA, Confluence) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g., JAMA, CAMEO).
Preferred Qualifications
- Active and transferable Top Secret clearance.
- Familiarity with satellite systems, communication systems, and evolving security technologies.
- Direct experience with National Security Agency (NSA) cryptographic certification.
- Direct experience with Program Protection Plan (PPP) and Program Protection Implementation Plan (PPIP) per DoDI 5000.2 and DoDI 5200.39.
- Experience as an Agile Scrum Master and/or Product Owner.
- Experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) and/or Basis of Estimate (BOE) author.
- RTX Earned Value and Basis of Estimate Certifications, or willingness to obtain within six months.
- Cybersecurity-related certifications (e.g., CISSP, Security+).
- Self-starter requiring limited direction and minimal supervision.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $132,400 – $251,600 USD. Factors considered include role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs, depending on role level and collective-bargaining agreement status.
