About the role
Ready to build Amazon's next $100B business? We're transforming how billions of packages move around the globe by evolving Amazon's fulfillment engine into an agile, intelligent shipping network. This role focuses on Inbound Planning & Demand Shaping, which sits at the front of the package journey—where the network first learns what volume is coming, when, and where. The goal is to give the network the flexibility and decision-making power to plan proactively, ensuring better decisions about labor, capacity, and sortation before volume arrives.
Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year vision, strategy, and roadmap for inbound planning and demand shaping, connecting inbound visibility to network flexibility and decision-making power.
- Write product narratives and requirements to define new capabilities and drive alignment across forecasting, S&OP, operations, and engineering teams.
- Balance near-term operational needs (e.g., peak readiness) with long-term investments in inbound visibility and demand-shaping capabilities.
- Own inbound volume visibility at the network level, ensuring unbroken visibility from shipper handoff through receipt at Amazon sites.
- Define site-level demand by hour and drive allocation of near-term forecasts into planning units and sortation windows across single- and multi-stop routes.
- Account for real-world day-of dynamics (e.g., prior-day misses, cancellations, ad-hoc capacity) when re-allocating volume.
- Own the labor- and capacity-planning signals operations teams rely on, using forecast and manifest data to enable proactive, day-of decisions.
- Drive shipment manifest accuracy in partnership with forecasting and S&OP teams, measuring planned volume against actual received volume to close gaps.
- Build demand-shaping capabilities to smooth and steer incoming volume toward available capacity, improving quality, capacity utilization, and cost.
- Unify forecasting and S&OP outputs across strategic, weekly, and day-of horizons into a single trusted planning signal.
- Work with engineering to integrate volume forecast and manifest data into operator and network-planning tools used daily by operations teams.
- Define clear acceptance criteria for operational adoption, ensuring planning data is trustworthy, consistently presented, and actionable at the site level.
- Make sequencing and scope trade-offs to deliver impact incrementally, prioritizing readiness ahead of peak.
- Own inbound planning accuracy as the primary success measure, along with supporting metrics like forecast accuracy and package-mix accuracy.
- Establish mechanisms for continuous visibility, baselining, and proactive risk identification.
- Quantify the impact of inbound planning and demand-shaping improvements on delivery quality, capacity utilization, and cost to serve, and communicate results to leadership.
- Build alignment across forecasting, S&OP, engineering, and operations through clear narratives and data.
- Represent the voice of operations teams in product decisions and drive adoption of inbound planning capabilities across sites and regions.
