About the role

The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in supporting plasma center operations. They greet donors, perform venipunctures, monitor the donation process, and ensure the smooth operation of plasmapheresis equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors as they enter and exit the donor floor.
  • Perform venipuncture of donors and program the plasmapheresis machine.
  • Monitor donors during the donation process and manage donor reactions.
  • Install, prime, and disconnect disposable sets on the plasmapheresis machines.
  • Stock supplies, break down empty cartons, and assist with proper disposal.
  • Take and record donor pulse, blood pressure, and temperature measures.
  • Test samples and record other donor measures such as hematocrit, total protein, and weight.
  • Enter donor information into the Donor Information System (DIS).
  • Care for donors by coordinating them to the donor floor and compensating them using the Debit Card system.
  • Support the center management team in identifying operational improvements and implementing changes through approved procedures like 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for the entire work shift.
  • Will work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lean, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach above shoulders and below knees.
  • Ability to lift to 5 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 32 lbs. and rarely 50 lbs.
  • Fine motor coordination, depth perception, and ability to hear equipment from a distance.
  • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (risk level 1) requires prolonged glove wear 90% of the time.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a customer or patient-facing role is helpful.

  • Physical stamina to perform tasks requiring standing and bending.
  • Basic computer skills to operate donor information systems.

Pay

$17.00 per hour, subject to state or local minimum wage requirements.
