About the role

The position of Physician Assistant PD in the Department of Surgery requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care of surgical patients, primarily located at a new hospital in Irvine, California.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating care and ordering diagnostics
  • Creating a treatment plan
  • Participating in inpatient sign out/hand-off
  • Rounding and communicating with surgery teams/residents/attending physicians
  • Assisting with surgical consultations and resuscitations
  • Coordinating procedures, admitting and discharging patients, and managing phone calls
  • Triage and follow-up of critical labs, patient history, physical examinations, and health needs
  • Managing hospitalized patients and providing multi-disciplinary care coordination
  • Collaborating with surgeons and the surgical team in the operating room

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire
  • Skill at clearly communicating medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and on the telephone
  • Maintain clinical competence in the delivery of patient care in the specialty area
  • Knowledge of applicable billing practices for PA services
  • Must be a current, active, and unrestricted licensed in the State of California
  • Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date and meet current Medicare requirements for billing
  • Must have a current DEA number
  • At least 2 years of Physician Assistant clinical experience

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a training program approved by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California
  • Certified by the State Board of Medical Examiners or the National Board of Medical Examiners
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification

Skills

  • Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures
  • Ability to perform various medical procedures
