About the role

The position of Senior Physician Assistant in the Department of Surgery at UC Irvine requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care of surgical patients, primarily located at our new hospital in Irvine, California.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating care and ordering diagnostics
  • Creating a treatment plan
  • Participating in inpatient sign out/hand-off
  • Rounding and communicating with surgery teams/residents/attending physicians
  • Participating in surgical consultations
  • Rescuing surgical patients from the ED and ICU
  • Coordinating procedures (scheduling operations and other procedures)
  • Admitting and discharging patients (admission H&P, orders, discharge summary, instructions, and medications)
  • Triage phone calls from patients and nurses
  • Reviewing critical labs, following up with patients and medical staff
  • Obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing physical examinations/assessments, and exploring patient's health needs in a trauma-informed manner
  • Identifying, treating, and managing hospitalized patients
  • Participating in comprehensive care of patients in inpatient settings and providing multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians
  • Assisting in the operating room, working closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care throughout surgical procedures

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire
  • HIPPA and other training completion as required by Medical Center
  • Annual TB screening and any applicable tests to meet JCAHO requirements
  • Privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information
