About the role
GridStor is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to oversee network engineering for Utility Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects from late-stage development through construction and commissioning. The role involves managing network infrastructure, maintaining operating projects, deploying systems for in-house EMS, interfacing with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute network engineering for projects in late-stage development through construction stage, including designing and configuring LANs/WANs, procuring networking hardware, managing scope, risks, and coordinating with stakeholders.
- Maintain network systems for operating projects, including monitoring performance, applying security patches, conducting audits, optimizing bandwidth, and ensuring compliance with operational standards.
- Deploy network systems related to utility scale BESS, install and configure switches, routers, firewalls, cellular devices, and fiber optic infrastructure, integrate with SCADA/EMS protocols, and troubleshoot existing EMS.
- Interface with EPC, Major Equipment Suppliers, Consultants, Independent Engineers, and other cross-functional teams, coordinating design reviews, providing technical guidance, reviewing deliverables, and resolving integration challenges.
- Act as the subject matter expert in utility scale BESS networking, with expertise in areas such as network design, firewall configuration, switch and fiber logic implementation, AWS integration, SCADA/EMS system networking, and compliance audits.
- Prepare and manage technical specifications, develop RFPs, evaluate vendor proposals, and oversee specification adherence for hardware, software, and integration services.
- Manage/Review and approve network design packages, perform detailed technical reviews, hold EPC and Major Equipment Suppliers accountable, and ensure quality assurance through testing and validation.
- Develop internal network engineering processes and standards, including creating standardized templates and documentation for commissioning, operations, and maintenance.
- Travel to jobsites as needed.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in networking (minimum 3 years in BESS or related energy systems).
- Background: Experience with firewalls, VPNs, switches, fiber logic, AWS integration, or SCADA/EMS systems is highly desirable.
- Location & Availability: Preference for being based in Portland, OR and available to work a hybrid schedule.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Adaptability: Ability to be agile and flexible, readily taking on tasks outside the typical scope of the role as needed.
- Confidentiality: Proven ability to handle highly confidential information with utmost discretion.

- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and TEAMS.
