Sr. Mobility System Engineer – Algorithm , Leo Customer Terminal

Amazon LEO is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

About the role

As a Sr. Mobility System Engineer - Algorithms, you will develop algorithms for mobility terminals in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. You will work daily with electrical, hardware, RF, antenna, silicon, and product design engineers, as well as software and operations teams. The Leo Customer Terminal team owns the entire process from early prototypes through mass production, including requirements documents, architecture definition, hardware development, and integration/verification testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop pointing and tracking algorithms enabling seamless pointing and tracking towards LEO satellites by mobility terminals.
• Evaluate various sensors and fuse inputs from sensors such as GNSS, IMU, and MAG.
• Develop simulation tools to validate software and hardware.
• Develop models to validate various mobility terminal-related algorithms.
• Collaborate with software engineers to implement/integrate software packages and validate designs with simulation and field measurements.
• Proactively engage with internal and external development partners on systems’ hardware and software architectures and implementation.
• Ensure delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory, and business requirements.
• Perform in-field tests and validation of various customer terminal architectures.
• Travel up to 10% depending on project phases.

Requirements

• Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
• BS or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Matlab, or PowerShell.
• 5+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.
• 3+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience.
• 3+ years in a SW/HW development environment with at least 1 recent year in an architectural/system role.
• 3+ years of experience in development for complex telecommunication, high-speed digital, antenna, and/or satellite communication systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.
• Experience leading the design, build, and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with distributed systems at scale.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
• Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure successfully delivered to customers.
• Experience in Space Vehicle/Satellite Operations, Space Communications, or related industry.
• Experience in embedded wireless systems or general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware.
• Experience working with mobility satellite terminals such as maritime and aeronautical.
• Experience developing in LabView and Matlab.
• Master/PhD degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
• Familiarity with phased array designs and implementations.
• Satellite over-the-air communication field-trial experience.

Pay

USA, WA, Redmond - $151,200.00 - $204,600.00 USD annually, including sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
