Job Summary
About this role
Under the general direction of the Pathologists and the Departmental Supervisor performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests on environmental, blood and body fluid specimens as prescribed by physicians or healthcare providers in the technical area.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education
Bachelor degree in Hematology, Biology, Microbiology, Basic Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science and Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science required; or previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under March 14, 1990 rules (Medicare/CLIA '67) on or before February 28, 1992. - Experience
Minimum one year of experience in all areas of the Laboratory Department required. New graduates from an accredited school of Medical Technology are considered to have one year of Laboratory experience in all areas of the Laboratory. - Licensure and/or Certification
ASCP or NCA certification required. Eligible candidates will be accepted and expected to sit and pass certification exam within 6 months of employment.
Skills
- Ability to take action based on review of policies, protocols, procedures and methodologies.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory methods and analytical principles in department.
- Working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to effect venipuncture and safely handle specimens, calibrate equipment, etc.
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
- Good knowledge of quality control principles.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer proficiency.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English required.
- Ability to maintain confidential information required.
