About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and continuous innovation within our rapidly expanding data center footprint, focusing on liquid or air cooling products and supporting infrastructure. You will work closely with Product Design, Civil Structural Design, Field, and Operation teams to drive advancements in reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Define and design liquid or air cooling equipment and related infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
  • Support field engineering and data center operation teams for root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
  • Maintain and develop technical design procedures associated with piping and pipe support analysis activities.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
  • Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
  • Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating ownership.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub-components.
  • Provide product design support to other team members.
  • Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial product engineering experience for mission-critical facilities, including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is:

  • USA, GA, Atlanta: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, OH, Columbus: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Austin: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, VA, Herndon: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, WA, Seattle: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually

Your compensation package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
