Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical engineering design and coordination for commercial, institutional, and advanced technology facility projects.
  • Develop and review basis-of-design narratives, engineering calculations, and construction documentation in compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IECC, IBC, LEED, etc.).
  • Oversee mechanical system design, including lighting and controls, power distribution, fire alarm systems, HVAC coordination, and specialty equipment integration.
  • Provide technical leadership and delegate tasks to engineering and production staff to ensure accurate and timely project deliverables.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while fostering professional development within the mechanical engineering team.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to define project requirements and deliver optimal design solutions.
  • Stay informed on emerging mechanical engineering technologies, building systems innovations, and code updates.
  • Participate in project meetings and presentations to communicate design intent and technical recommendations.
  • Oversee construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and ensuring construction aligns with design intent.
  • Support quality control and internal design reviews to maintain the firm’s high engineering standards.

Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Arizona.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, including leadership on complex building projects.
  • Strong expertise in designing mechanical systems, including: Lighting and lighting controls, Power and power distribution systems, HVAC equipment coordination, Fire alarm systems, Specialty equipment integration.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, COMcheck, and energy code compliance tools.
  • Deep knowledge of NEC and NFPA code standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate engineering concepts into clear construction documentation.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, OneNote, and related engineering documentation tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
