About the role
As a member of the Vandenberg Facilities Infrastructure team, you will work with a group of elite engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure that will enable orbital launch capability for the largest rocket in the world.
Responsibilities
- Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial facility mechanical & HVAC engineering projects
- Perform all calculations necessary for HVAC and piping design, including load calculations, airflow, and pressure drop analysis
- Lead the design, architecture, programming, and implementation of HVAC control systems (BMS/BAS) for complex industrial and launch-critical facilities
- Develop control sequences of operation, program DDC/PLC logic, and configure control networks for optimal performance and reliability
- Drive coordination and design necessary to obtain local, state, and federal permits as it relates to building and mechanical permits
- Manage the mechanical and controls aspects of construction projects in the field, including quality control, conflict resolution, and coordination of a multi-discipline contractor team
- Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
- Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, control system architecture, schedule, and cost estimates prior to project implementation
- Own budget & schedule for a scope of work within a multi-disciplinary team, including all facets of engineering, permitting, procurement, and construction
- Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time, with particular focus on controls integration and troubleshooting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline
- 5+ years of professional experience in design or build of mechanical, HVAC, or facility mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure
Preferred Skills And Experience
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Strong expertise in HVAC controls system architecture design, programming, and implementation
- Proficiency in developing control strategies, programming DDC/PLC systems, and configuring building automation platforms
- Deep knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, air handling equipment, and their associated control systems
