Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and collaborate with diverse teams of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers.
About the role
You’ll join a team that shapes the future of data center infrastructure while making a significant environmental impact. This role involves designing energy-efficient mechanical systems, leading cross-functional teams, and overseeing projects from conception through implementation, including budget management. You’ll collaborate with hardware teams to optimize facility-equipment integration and drive continuous improvement through data analysis. Travel may be up to 20% of your time for in-person collaboration at your assigned office location.

Requirements
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
- Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production
- Knowledge of Power Systems, Fluid Dynamics, or Thermodynamics
Pay
The base salary range for this position is:
- USA, GA, Atlanta: $136,600.00 - $184,800.00 USD annually
- USA, OH, Columbus: $136,600.00 - $184,800.00 USD annually
- USA, TX, Austin: $136,600.00 - $184,800.00 USD annually
- USA, VA, Herndon: $136,600.00 - $184,800.00 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $136,600.00 - $184,800.00 USD annually
Your compensation package will include sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave. Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
