Sr Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role
Raytheon is expanding its engineering organization to meet customer demand and is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Mechanical Engineering team. This role involves designing, developing, and producing critical defense systems for land, sea, and air applications. Responsibilities
- Develop innovative technical solutions across the entire product lifecycle, including proposal, advanced development, design, cooling, manufacturing, integration, and testing of radars, support equipment, and electronics for military programs.
- Perform tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function meet design intent for ruggedized structures, interconnects, cooling, electronics packaging, tooling, and array integration.
- Lead small teams in a fast-paced collaborative environment, providing mechanical hardware design expertise.
- Support product integration and compliance assessments in domestic and international factories and supplier locations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, and external suppliers) to resolve technical challenges and develop effective design solutions.
- Independently manage tasks to meet schedule, budget, and technical goals.
- Participate in design reviews and conduct trade studies to support engineering decisions.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers to foster team development and technical growth.
- Create, review, and interpret technical documentation for hardware or tooling products.
- Develop, create, release, or update engineering drawings using 3D CAD design tools.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with 3 years of experience.
- Experience in mechanical design, advanced design development, manufacturing, or tooling processes.
- Experience with the development, creation, release, or updates of engineering drawings using 3D CAD tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven mechanical design ability in production or advanced development environments.
- Experience in electronics packaging, electronic systems design (interconnects, power distribution, cooling, RF, or tooling products).
- Technical Data Package creation and change notice processing, including communication of functional and performance requirements.
- Proficiency in CREO CAD or similar 3D solid modeling software with configuration and data management.
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with cost/schedule reporting or proposal development.
- Detail-oriented with strong cross-functional team collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of Military and/or Commercial Specifications and requirements.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace hardware systems design.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD. The final offer considers factors such as role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Schedule
9/80 schedule (every other Friday off).
