Permanent position located in Hauppauge, New York.
About the role
Execute assigned design work to support engineering project activity, focusing on the conceptual design and development of pneumatic valve and control systems (e.g., regulators, solenoid valves). Accurately interpret customer specifications to design and develop aerospace-qualified hardware using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) tools. Collaborate to generate details, assembly drawings, models, bills of materials (BOM), and associated production and development procedures/reports.
Responsibilities
- Create new designs in accordance with customer requirements and verify compliance with performance and scope-of-work specifications.
- Generate design modifications to existing pneumatic designs to meet new customer-driven requirements.
- Provide design solutions to manufacturing problems and sustaining business.
- Coordinate and/or prepare production drawings and documentation.
- Review, coordinate, and/or draft procedures for hardware development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
- Provide technical and supervisory guidance to personnel supporting the project, including proposal and development work.
- Direct the building of prototypes and development hardware.
- Complete forms and relevant documentation for procurement, fabrication, and testing within the Engineering department.
- Perform and/or verify engineering testing/calculations to meet performance and safety margins.
- Prepare and present information packages, including all typical supplier document requirement lists (SDRL), for internal design reviews.
- Investigate production problems and search for solutions; advise and assist other department members on design issues.
Requirements
- BSME degree required.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in the design and development of pneumatic valves or similar complex mechanical assemblies.
- Experience in designing detailed mechanical components/control valves.
- Some project management experience.
- Technical writing skills for acceptance test procedures, design reports, and qualification test procedures/reports.
- Hands-on experience with assembly, setup, testing, troubleshooting, and laboratory testing.
- Experience with electrical testing and precision testing using meters.
- Understanding of circuit boards is a plus.
- Experience performing GD&T on complex assemblies based on the latest guidelines.
Skills
- CADD: SolidWorks knowledge preferred.
- Stress analysis: ANSYS/FEA knowledge preferred.
- Manufacturing practices (preferred): Machining, welding, stamping, molding, etc.
Pay
$120,000–$150,000 per year.
