About the role

Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network, delivering fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world. The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will be a member of the Amazon Leo Inter-Satellite Link team, focusing on the design of mechanical ground support equipment (GSE), including assembly, alignment, and testing fixturing and tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a variety of tasks and development projects, using knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines.
  • Generate detailed 3D CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables, specifically assembly, alignment and test GSE for satellite systems, using Siemens NX.
  • Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing and program management to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved.
  • Develop documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.
  • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space and GSE hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience with CAD design.
  • 7+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with design and development of hardware at scale (High End Precision Mechanisms desired).
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation.
  • Experience in DFM/DFA and manufacturing process development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD design in NX, TeamCenter.
  • Experience with production fixturing and tooling design.
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
  • Knowledge of Ansys Finite Element analysis tool.
  • 5+ years of experience with development, test, deployment of aerospace systems.
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams.
  • Strong time and task management skills with consistent attention to detail.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $137,300.00 - $185,700.00 USD annually, plus sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
